Former GPCC Executive, Sika-Wiafe Stephen, has won a tight Student Representative Council Presidential (SRC) run-off in the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Kumasi.
The electoral officials, led by its Interim Chairman, Issifu Mohammed, announced the results hours after the close of polls despite the misgivings and issues of misconduct allegedly labelled at the winning candidate by a spokesperson of his fiercest rival.
According to the EC’s Chairperson, Mr. Sika-Wiafe obtained 1,606 votes representing 49.81 percent whiles Mr. Malba secured 1,581 making up for 49.04 percent of the votes cast.
Mr. Sika-Wiafe now becomes the third SRC President to man the affairs of the student after Richard Opoku occupied the highest office in 2021 followed by Mr. Peter Henry Bernasco whose regime has been described as the worse so far.
The final declaration of the result was greeted with wild jubilations by supporters of Mr. Sika-Wiafe as they marched along the streets of the campus with songs intertwined with ‘prayers in tongues’.
Both candidates, were not able to secure the 50 percent plus 1 vote in the main elections which saw five candidates contested for the position on Tuesday, February, 2023.
